In this video I share with you which art supplies I took with me, when we travelled through France.
We’ve shot this video in France last year and I thought it would be great to show it to you. I’ll be showing you all the art stuff I took with me on the road. It was really hard for me to choose. Before we went away I created two lists: the one with items that I definitely couldn’t miss and a list with all items I thought I maybe needed.
We were travelling for three months and had in advantage no idea what we would do: maybe record an online class, or maybe teach on location. One thing was for sure: I needed things to create at least my own art.
I have two cupboards to store my art, which is quite a lot space. Then, for some larger items, like A3-sized paper, I can use the bottom of the wardrobe. Behind the third chair is space for the roll of protective plastic.
I will now share my lists with you.
Definitive list:
- My small art journal from Dina Wackley
- Acrylic paint from the brands Winsor & Newton, Amsterdam Talens and ARA;
- Heavy gel medium Matte from Amsterdam
- A leather bag with various brushes (thank you Harry and Laura!)
- A roller
- A bag with all kinds of fabric tu use for mixed-media
- Charcoal
- Intense pencils
- A water tin
- A bag and a tin with all kind of Posca pens, markers, pens and fineliners, scissors
- Painter’s tape
- In my fabric bag: a folder for inspirational items and collection of my own patterned paper, another folder with blank paper, book pages and other ‘frottage’ mixed-media items; palettes
Doubt list (these are all the things I brought with me, but seldom use these)
- Soft pastels
- Gouache paint
- Karisma pens
- Apron
- Large sized mixed-media paper (A3)
- Tear off canvas
- Extra water tins
- Acryl inks, bister and Indian ink
Spare items:
- 1 bottle of Green Gold acrylic paint

- Extra art journal
- 9 small canvases (10×10 cm, extra thick)

Hello Luz….your free class came up on YouTube for me. I’m just beginning it. It’s so wonderful and you are such an inspiration. I do have a couple of questions:
Besides your free class which class would you recommend to start with and….
What is the source for your journal?
J
Hi Jacki, thanks for your message, I’m sorry for the late reply! To answer your questions:
If you’d like to start with art journaling, there are 4 classes and I recommend you start with https://braveart.academy/classes/an-introduction-to-art-journaling/. It will introduce you to art journaling, with some explanations and exercises From there on, and if you like to art journal (who doesn’t?) you can follow one of the other art journal classes. If you’d like to start painting then I recommend https://braveart.academy/classes/pattern-playing/ but all my classes are actually for all levels of experience! Fun fact: one you purchased one of my classes, you’ll get a permanent 10% discount on any other class!
About the art journals: I have bought many from the Ranger brand and Dina Wakley signature, the Blue edition and the mixed pages, paper, cotton, burlap but unfortunately these are no longer in production. Ranger now only sell the ones with kraft paper pages. You could try the mixed media journals from Strathmore or Canson or you could try and make your own.
Please let me know if you now have enough information to get started, you can always email me at [email protected].
