‘Fantasy Flowers’
In this abstract painting course I invite you to create a flower scene from your imagination. In the video lessons (3 hours in total) I will show you various mixed media techniques that you can use right away. From preparing your canvas and creating a layered background, to choosing your colours and a composition. And of course how you build up the fantasy flowers step by step with for example paper, markers and textiles.
You can participate in this course if you have been painting for a while, but also if you have no experience at all. The course encourages you to play and, most of all: to enjoy the process. A perfect result is a nice bonus! Do you also want to lose yourself in a dreamy flower field? Then join me!

Create flowers from your imagination!
In this painting course you see me working on two panels of 40×20 cm. You think about your composition in advance, or it happens when you’re working on your piece(s), depending on which way of working you prefer. It’s also up to you if you want to paint larger close-up flowers or you want to suggest a large flower field. I’ll explain different techniques for creating a layered background. In this background you can often already discover shapes that you could use for your flowers. The flowers are often already there, you are the one to discover them and work them out.
You design your fantasy flowers by either painting them, or by gluing pieces of torn paper, that you may or may not have drawn on in advance. Making the flowers is very intuitive. You don’t have to think about it and you don’t have to copy real flowers. Everything comes entirely from your imagination! If you still find it difficult to get started, I will give you tips how to find inspiration. You will notice that once you get going, you’re unstoppable!

Mixed Media Techniques
What I love about mixed-media, is you don’t need many materials to work with. As a basis, all you need is a canvas, acrylic paint and paper for your pattern-work. The rest is up to you! You could add pre-patterned paper, fabric, tea bags… or even dried flower petals. I encourage you to think out of the box, as there are many resources you could use in your piece. Having said that, you don’t need much in order to follow the class.

Whether you are an experienced artist searching for a fresh approach or have no art experience at all, this course is suitable for you! The lessons are designed to help you open up to new techniques and (re)discover that playful experience. Creating and having fun are more important, having an end result to be proud of is a nice bonus!

When does the course start and finish?
This is a completely self-paced online course – you decide when you start, how long you work and when you finish. The class is permanently open and of the course material will be available for you to view, download and work through.
How long do I have access to the course?
How does unlimited access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like – across any and all devices you own. What level is the course suitable for? This course is for anyone who has ever wanted to sketch and paint trees. The material is suitable for beginners and more experienced artists.
Do I need all the art supplies?
This list of supplies is split up in two categories. There are some basic requirements, you’ll need a surface to work on, (like a canvas), acrylic paint and paper for your flower designs. It’s up to you what else you use! The good thing about mixed-media is you can make a lot of stuff without much supplies.
Do I need high speed internet for the course?
Yes, you will need a good internet connection to view and/or download the video content for this course. If you’re using the Teachable app on your iPad or iPhone, you could download all lessons to watch them offline.
Do I need to have experience with mixed media before I start with this class?
This class is suitable for all art levels, whether you are a beginner or an experienced artist. Everything will be explained step by step, I’ll teach you a lot of techniques so there will be something new for everybody joining the course! Being open and eager to learn are more important than the level you’re at!
Will there be an online community for this course?
Yes, I will provide details of how to submit a request to join the Luz Artworks Facebook community. There is also a hashtag #fantasyflowers that can be used on Instagram and other social media platforms.
