My eyes brought me to art!

I was really wondering if I should tell you this… but it’s definitely part of the story so I can’t keep it to myself.

Needless to say a painter needs a good pair of eyes. In my case, I haven’t. Having suffered from glaucoma since birth, I am blind in one eye and have vision of around 65%. That’s no excuse; I paint and I have always been doing that, even in times when my total vision was just 5%.

As a kid my creativity helped me to structure the outside world that seemed so chaotic to me. Therefore I built a large inner world inside that I could always go to. You must know I was a very shy and dreamy kid who preferred to be alone or with one or two best friends. Along the way I found out others were seeing more, or at least other things than I. So I had to cope with that. Of course there were some times that I felt, and still feel, limited by that.

However, I can truly say my eyes brought me to my art, as making art helped me to gain energy and structure that helped me get back to reality. That’s my full story: I want to share this world with you!
